We broke the 100 mark today with 108 views!  I am so glad that so many people are logging on and playing the games! 

Just a couple of announcements:

* Make sure to be reading every night, and since you're reading every night fill up those reading logs for a free book!!

Finally we have been studying polygons in math, build something with the polygon playground tool!  Talk about the names of each polygon, how many sides each has, and how many verticies each shape has too!

Spring Break

Hello from New York! I am enjoying the week with my family!

I hope you all are having a wonderful spring break!  I wanted to post a couple new website I found that have some really fun games to play over the weekend to get your brain warmed up for school monday!

The following site works on addition facts.  Look at the target number and then click on the numbers you need to add together to equal your target number.

Example: Target number 18  You could click a 9 and another 9.  Or you could click a 3, 3, 3, and a 9.

What's been going on this week?

We have been completing some incredible work in class this week. 

We have been learning about time in math.  How to tell the time on a digital and analog clock.  These boys are rolling some dice to get the digital time and then have to record it on an analog clock!  Then they have to write what they do at that time during the day!

Next, in writing we have been writing the steps we take to brush our teeth.  Here is a student using her flow map to make a rough draft of her writing!  We have learned how important it is to organize our thoughts on different thinking maps, it makes for better writing!!!

Also we have been studying how to summarize stories in reading.  We have learned to write what happened at the beginning of the story first, then to write down what happened at the very end of the story, and last we write down what happened in the middle so we dont leave anything out!  These girls were working on a summary of The Grouchy Lady Bug By: Eric Carle.  While another student was working on a summary of The Foolish Tortoise By: Eric Carle

We have been working hard and I couldn't be more proud!

Cycles and Patters in the sky

We have been learning about different cycles and patterns that take place in the sky.  We started with the moon cycle and observed how the moon changes shape.  Here is a great website that shows the moon cycle for each month:

Then we studied the sun and how it changes position during the day.  The sun rises in the east, is above our heads at mid day/ noon, and sets in the west, this is a site that allows you to make a calendar of sunrise and sunset times:

Finally we talked about the STARS and the constellations, the patterns of stars in the sky.  This website lets you look at all different kinds of constellations:
