We have been working so hard in our classroom!! I wanted to share a few of the brilliant ideas i have seen the past few weeks from the second graders in my classroom!
In the picture below students are practicing their math, finding the area of objects that is. In the picture below two students were partner and were working on finding the area of their school supplies by covering the objects with color tiles... finding the area in units squared!
In reading last week we were creating a summary of a non-fiction passage about wolves. We found that summarizing by the sub-titles really gives us a clear picture of what the whole article was about! Students created a summary chart in their journals and copied their ideas onto post it notes so we could sort and share our ideas!
Back to measuring! We also have been learning about measuring the length of objects and what tool we would use to measure different things. We decided that it would not be a good idea to measure the length of the pool with some centimeter cubes! Here is a students journal entry about what she would measure with the different tools we learned about.
In writing we picked out favorite day of the week and wrote why! Here is a students circle map and tree map... so impressed by her neat handwriting and the way she is organizing her ideas! Looks like the makings of a great writer!
More practice with area! This time students were able to choose different items that were not school supplies and measure the area of these items! These two students chose their lunch box!
I am so impressed with how much these kids have been learning. Again I feel so blessed to have such a great group of students this year.
