Happenings...

WOW! As of first thing this morning we have 212 views!  What an awesome way to check in and see some of the wonderful things your children have been doing at school.  I am so excited that our class blog has only been up and running for a couple weeks but so many people are enjoying it!

I wanted to post some pictures of things that have been going on for the past few weeks!  If you missed open house here are some of the things that you missed.

Also, sorry for the sideways shots!  They wont save on my computer going the right way, I will try to fix this for newer posts!

Clarrissa our class pet was ready to meet her classmates' parents, siblings, and friends that made their way to open house!

Each student created a square for our class quilt that showed how different, special, and unique each one of them truly is!

Inside of each students' portfolio they had a few work samples to show off.  First they wrote out what the best thing about second grade has been so far.  They had a chance to pick what they loved the most and what made this year AWESOME!  Also we have been learning about what animals need to survive so each student made an animal habitat and wrote about what each animal needs!

In class we have been working hard too!  Here are a couple things we have done this week... and yes, we are showing off!

We have been working on inferencing, using cluse to decide what the author wants us to know.  Each student was given a bowl and a meal... They were to write clues describing their favoite foods to eat during that meal time!  This student had desert.....

In math we have been learning about shapes... 2-D shapes and 3-D shapes! We are shaped out!!! On this day the students counted how many edges they needed (toothpicks) and how many verticies they needed (marshmallows) to make the 2-D and 3-D shape of their choice!

Also, we cant forget when we compared and contrasted three, count 'em THREE stories about gardens!  We sought out things that were alike and things that were different about each story.  In this picture we comapred the two stories: The ugly vegetables and The garden project.

We are CLEARLY working very hard in second grade... can hardly wait to show you some of the awesome things we make next week!
